A Portrait of the Rolex Fastnet Race by Eddie Warden Owen
Eddie Warden Owen, Chief Executive of the Royal Ocean Racing Club, describes the Rolex Fastnet Race as one of the worlds most iconic offshore races. This impressive footage of one of sailings ultimate tests delivers a brief but telling glimpse of the gripping sailing that unfolds during the 605-nautical-mile ocean race starting in front of the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes, the Isle of Wight and heading to the Fastnet Rock off southwestern Ireland before sailing back across the Celtic Sea to Plymouth. Every two years, some 300 yachts from 20 countries gather for this Everest of yachting, a veritable benchmark for almost a century and a cornerstone of Rolexs association with offshore sailing.
